Five months

We celebrated Nick's 5 month birthday by going to the pumpkin patch this weekend...I think he's the cutest pumpkin in the patch! Ironically, the daycare is taking a field trip there this Friday so we'll get to pick out another pumpkin for our front porch.

On Sunday, we got to preview his professional pics. As soon as we recieve the CD with the digital images, I will post them for everyone. I'm telling you, they are amazing!

This weekend, Nick & I are going to visit Barry & Jen and meet their new baby, Gwen! Plus, we'll get to see Meredith, Erin & Brenda (all Mount friends) so I'm really looking forward to Saturday.

6 hours = sleeping through the night?

Someone needs to talk to the medical community and let them know that just because a baby can sleep 6 hours or more at night, that shouldn't mean that they are sleeping through the night. Nick sleeps from 8:30 pm until 4:30 am every night...8 hours...but I would really like him to tack on another 2 hours to that count. Anyone out there have some suggestions? Or should I just suck it up and be thankful that my 4.5 month old can sleep this long?

It's after 10...better hurry up and get ready for my 4:30 am wake up call!

Getting big!

Nick had his 4 month well baby appointment this afternoon with the pediatrician. Nick is now 14 lbs, 9 ounces which means that he has doubled his birth weight ahead of schedule! Yippee! Cynthia checked him over and pronounced him perfect...no mention of a "misshapen" anything at this appointment!!!...so I was very pleased! He did get 4 shots and an oral vaccination so after some general fussiness, he has settled in for a long nap.

Four months and captured his smile!!!

How is this possible? We've made it through 25% of his first year already?! Even though he still doesn't sleep through the night or like tummy time, he has come a long way this month. He can hold up his head, briefly stand on my lap, occasionally laugh (very rare though), and TALKS all the time! I'm trying to get it on video so everyone can enjoy.

Next Friday is his 4 month appointment which means lots of shots. Since he spiked a fever for 2 days after his last set of shots, I thought it was smart to schedule it for a Friday afternoon so I could be home with him all weekend. We also have his first professional photo appointment scheduled in two weeks. It was originally scheduled for last weekend but we had to reschedule thanks to hurricane Hannah.

Honestly this whole mommy thing just keeps getting better & better!

Angels...

Now that I have a child, I've been going through the baby book that my mom so diligently updated with important events and various milestones. Apparently, I became very bossy somewhere around age 2 (and some would argue that I haven't changed a bit, LOL!) and around age 4 she recorded that I began to become very interested in death, heaven, God and guardian angels.

Reading about this got me thinking...I have always found the concept of a guardian angel to be very comforting - someone to watch over you, guide you...someone to protect you. There's definitely been moments in my life where I have sensed their presence. I'm confident that Nick has his own guardian angels as well. There's a song by Marc Cohn called "Things We've Handed Down" and there's a line of the song that makes me think of one angel in particular:

"Don't know why you chose us
Were you watching from above?
Is there someone there that knows us
Said we'd give you all our love?"

Chris, thank you for helping Nick to choose us. I know you're watching and loving every crazy, sleepless minute. :)

Updates soon

Nick loves his fans and has made me promise that I will update everyone on his latest tricks very soon. In the meantime, tide yourself over with some cute pics! The birth announcement is one I created but never took the time to print out & send...oh well, it just means that I won't have to do it for baby #2! (no, I'm not pregnant, you crazy people!)
