STILL sick...

Poor guy...this cold is just hanging on for way too long. We thought he was getting better but he started sounding like a honking goose once again on Wednesday night/Thursday morning. So Daddy took him to the doctor's (which meant that he got to use his daddy diaper bag, which was a hit) and she said that his lungs still sounded clear. Whew. She recommended that we continue to use the aspirator and saline nose drops to keep him draining and to keep him in the papasan at night until this all subsides. If he still has the yellow/green drainage next Thursday, we're to call the doctor for an antibiotic.

Then he wakes up this morning with crusty eyes. I think that it's just cold related and that he'll be fine for the day. But around 10 am, I got a phone call from Lidia (our daycare provider) telling me that it's gradually looking worse as the day is progressing. So I call our doctor and they ask us to come back in. Luckily, they gave us their latest appointment so I was able to go along. The doctor thinks that he now has a blocked tear duct that has become infected. She prescribed an antibiotic ointment (his first medicine, sniff!) that should clear it up within a few days. She did warn us that this could come back and if he continues to have problems, we will need to be seen by a pediatric opthalmologist at 9 months and evaluated for possible surgery. So we went from simple eye infection to possible surgery requiring general anesthetic in a matter of 5 minutes...I felt a little disoriented! Regardless, hopefully everything will resolve on its own and he'll be feeling better soon.

Hopefully we'll have some new pictures for everyone this weekend. We're planning to take a stroller hike with the whole family - Fury too!

Let's get physical!

Unlike his mother, Nick has decided to start working out his muscles. Go, baby, go!

3 months old!

Nick celebrated his 3 month birthday with his first cold! :( Poor little guy started getting sick last Friday and progressively got worse throughout the week. We moved his papasan into our room and which helped him to sleep a lot better. We called the doctor and they asked us to come in. The good news is that his lungs sound clear and they think he's on the mend. He's still pretty snuffly and has a yucky sounding cough but as long as he doesn't have a fever and the cough goes away by next Thursday, he should be fine.

We also found out that he weighs 12 pounds, 12.5 ounces...which means that he's fallen in the percentiles for weight. But since he's sick and hasn't been eating as often or as much, we'll assume that he might have lost a few ounces and will be back on track very soon.

Developmentally, Nick seems to be doing well. He smiles at us & his toys - he especially loves toys that light up, like his butterfly and bouncy seat. He can lift his head almost 90 degrees when he's on his tummy, thanks to lots of tummy time (which he's enjoying!). His newest trick is opening his hand to hold his rattle when it's touched to the back of his hand. Every day I try to teach him something new, and it's fun to watch him learn.

Nick's favorite time of the day

Everything could be going wrong in his world, but as soon as you put him in his bathtub, the world is a happy place.

Milestones and such

I was recently visiting a friend's blog and was checking out some of her blog links to friends who have babies around Nick's age. And now I feel depressed/anxious about what Nick can't do. These other babies that will stand when they're pulled into the position, or hold their head up for tummy time, or grab objects - my kid doesn't do any of these things. I thought I was doing a good job of interacting with him and playing with him...but maybe I was doing all the wrong things. Plus tummy time is a joke and he's hardly napping at all.

Sorry I sound so blah...I'm just contending with a cranky baby who napped a grand total of 30 minutes today (5 minutes this morning & 25 minutes this afternoon) and feeling like a bad mom.
