Being a mommy can be scary!

So we had an unexpected trip to visit the doctor today. (Cynthia, it's great seeing you so often but really...we need to do dinner instead!) Nick gave me a huge scare this morning - at 5:30, he woke up choking/gagging and sounding very mucousy in his nose. We still don't know if he was choking on spit up and it came through his nose or if he was suddenly congested but I couldn't get anything to come out with the nose sucker and he was absolutely inconsolable. Finally he settled down enough to eat but had to keep stopping since he so congested. He didn't eat long and went right back to sleep. While he didn't sound congested while he was sleeping he would wake up every 5 minutes or so coughing - like something was tickling or caught in his throat. Andrew woke up at 7:30 am and decided that maybe Nick was having problems with the dust/allergens in the room so we moved downstairs. Within 20 minutes of being downstairs, he seemed fine! I think it was a coincidence but we'll find out tonight when we try it again. Anyway, Cynthia listened to his chest and gave him a good check and pronounced him healthy. We're going to keep a close eye on him over the next week or so to make sure that this congestion doesn't turn into something else, but God willing he will continue to be just fine.

The other good news from the appointment was hearing that Nick had gained 5 ounces since his checkup on Wednesday! While he's still in the 50th percentile, I'm so glad that he's on track and gaining so well. It makes me feel like maybe I actually am getting this feeding thing down!

Needless to say, I am exhausted from the excitement of the day and am looking forward to giving Nick his bath and hitting the sack very soon!
